Chaplaincy
Chaplaincy is about walking alongside all those who are part of our community and sharing in the journey of their daily lives. It is about realising that each of us is unique and loved by God.
The Chaplaincy at our school is a place of welcome, a place of refuge, a space to talk and plan and celebrate. We believe that Jesus Christ is with us in everything; in our successes as well as in our failures, in our ordinary, everyday lives and in the special times as well. It’s about you!

What we do in chaplaincy is that we help organise masses for the school. There is the Christmas Liturgy, Lenten Liturgy, Easter Liturgy, and the Thanksgiving Mass There is also the tutor masses that we do in the chapel for nearly every tutor group. We come up with ideas so that the whole school can join in with masses. We also go on trips to represent the school at masses outside the school like the Mapleduram Corpus Christi mass. We like to get the whole school to do something for the mass like last year we cut out leaves and on the leaves, we wrote what we are good at and how we can help people with that skill. | "China was probably one of my greatest memories here at Blessed Hugh. How many people can say that they went to China on a school trip? The trip enabled us to do many things that other ordinary students may not do. Being given the opportunity to go to China and visit places such as the Great Wall, Olympic Stadium, the Forbidden Palace, Terracotta Army and many other experiences, was a once in a lifetime trip that I’ll never forget." Paige Foote. | It is essential that the links between Blessed Hugh Faringdon School and the Parish of English Martyrs are strong. I like to see the school and the parish as a single Catholic community where links exist at many levels. Bishop Philip has reminded us that schools and parishes are the two principal agencies of the Church’s mission. So apart from all the human links that unite our school and our parish, we have a share the Church’s mission of proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and of making disciples who faithfully follow him. We are being called with a renewed sense of urgency to actively engage in the Church’s mission of evangelisation. Let us continue to work and pray together therefore as one Catholic, evangelising community of faith. | The Peer Supporters approach the Gospel of caring by helping the year 7 if they have a problem they can come speak to us and we will listen to them. We also help all years if they need to talk will advise them on the best path to take within their career and friendship paths. One thing we mainly focus on is the importance of caring and acting as big brothers and sisters, to provide a face they can recognize. We will also spend time with a single person if they need help or advise they can tell us anything and we will listen to them. | There are many opportunities for students throughout the school to join the Student Leadership Team, from year 7 all the way through to 6th Form. Giving service to the school shows dedication to the well-being of fellow students; the student body is given a say in matters that may affect them, and encourages personal growth through given responsibilities. The Head Boy, Head Girl and the supporting teams assist the teaching staff with day to day tasks such as break monitoring and represent the school at events like open evenings for prospective students and their parents, and the annual prizegiving evening. |
