The aims of the geography department are to make students aware of how people interact with their environment and to make them more responsible citizens. The department aims to: develop in the students a sense of place, encourage students to enquire about their surroundings and help students understand how their landscape has formed.
Key Stage 3
Years 7, 8 and 9
In year 7 students study a range of physical and human geography topics including map skills, rivers and coasts, life in extreme environments, work and population. In year 8 the students study a range of physical and human geography topics including settlement, coasts, tourism and weather and climate. They also participate in a field trip to In year 9 the students study a range topics including glaciation and hazards. In Year 9 we begin the GCSE course. Field trips are arranged annually for the year group.

Year 10 and 11
AQA Geography specification A (www.aqa.com) Year 10 Units of study: The Challenge of the Physical World: UK physical landscapes – rivers and coasts, ecosystems and tropical rainforests. Year 11 Units of study: The Challenge of the Human World: urban environments, changing economic world, the challenge of resource management.
